Read first 15 minutes of class.  Read and take notes on essay from Time Magazine about the ratings of The Hunger Games and Bully.  Your notes should include 4-5 good questions for discussions.  Your questions may focus on vocabulary, parts of the essay you agree or disagree with, or your opinion of either book or movie if you have seen them.

Tuesday

Read first 15 minutes of class. Discuss essay from yesterday in small groups.  We will come together for a whole-class discussion the last 15 minutes or so.  I do expect you to have lots to say about the essay, so come with lots of questions and ideas.

Wednesday

Read first fifteen minutes of class. Poetry scavenger hunt.  Look through the poem collections to find examples of different kinds of poems and different poetic devices.  Record the poem you find and your explanation on the scavenger hunt paper.  Due Friday.

Thursday

Read first fifteen minutes of class.  Complete Partner Quiz for word study.  Complete Poetry Scavenger Hunt.  Due Friday.

Friday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  Turn in Poetry Scavenger Hunt.  Blog post:  Choose an “autobiographical poem,”  a poem that reflects something about who you are.  Choose at least four lines of the poem to copy into a blog post and write a thoughtful paragraph explaining your connection with the poem.  Remember to include a citation for the poem, inlcuding the poet, name of poem, and title of book you found it in.
