Poetry Friday: Haiku and more postcards

Here are a couple of moments from my week, told through haiku:

butternut squash soup
simmers through the afternoon
filling our hearts with love

the full moon hangs low
in the early morning chill
as the chickens chirp

And I was blessed with another postcard this week–just the thing to warm up the bite of winter that has settled in to stay. This one is from Robyn Hood Black:

Each Friday, I am excited to take part in Poetry Friday, where writers share their love of all things poetry. Tara hosts the Poetry Friday Roundup today at Going to Walden. She shares a poem by Linda Pastan that speaks hope to our turbulent times.. Hurry over and check out all the poetry morsels offered up today.

Poetry Friday: Haiku and postcards

Here are a few snapshots from the past couple of weeks, told in haiku.

sand hill cranes aim north
across barren sky – wings
beating silently

winter wind wraps snow
close to earth, tucking in trees
till spring’s thaw arrives

the bowstring pulled taut,
aim focused and muscles tensed
waiting for release

And I’ve been blessed with more poetry postcards! These have been just the thing to add a bit of brightness to busy weeks. Thank you to everyone who has participated and to Jone for organizing! Aren’t these lovely?

Poetry Friday: new year haiku

Happy New Year! I’m glad to be back with Poetry Friday after taking a break in December. I offer two haiku this morning that reflect the beginning of this year for me. There are big changes (good ones) fast approaching that is upending all that we thought was settled. I may not be able to join in every week with the craziness that is coming, but I will be reading and writing poetry in the moments I can.

the road stretches out
leading to journeys unknown
in the coming year

the minutes are crammed
with too many things to do
while moments slip past

I also received my first poetry post cards welcoming the new year–the year of the pig. Thanks to Jone MacCulloch for organizing this new year’s treat. These postcards were just what I needed. I am working on my poem and postcard and hope to have them sent out soon!

First, from Linda Mitchell
