Poetry Friday: Gratitude

For my poetry friends in the US, I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s Thanksgiving celebrations with friends and family you love. Even if you didn’t celebrate yesterday, I hope we all have much to be thankful for even amidst the turmoil of life.

One of the things I am thankful for is this poetry community. I continue to learn and grow in my writing practices as I write, read and share with so many generous and talented writers. This year, I am especially thankful to be included in the third volume of Today’s Little Ditty. My copy arrived in the mail this week, and I have enjoyed sharing it! Many thanks to Michelle Heidenrich Barnes for inspiring us each month with the challenges and to the committee who read and selected the poems.

Here is a small poem for today in honor of gratitude, something I’m trying to cultivate more of in my life every day.

Clap you hands
and stomp your feet
or maybe share
a quiet smile
with contented sighs.
Look at the world
with adoring eyes
and let your heart
overflow with
gratitude.

Each Friday, I am excited to take part in Poetry Friday, where writers share their love of all things poetry. Bridget hosts the Poetry Friday Roundup today at wee words for wee ones. She shares the experience of celebrating Thanksgiving from afar–all the way in Switzerland. Hurry over and check out all the poetry morsels offered up today.

I like your “adoring eyes” too. Didn’t the TLD collection turn out well??
We put up a “Thanksgiving Tree” every November and write “gratitude leaves.” It’s always so interesting to read them!

I like this thought, Kay: “look at the world with adoring eyes”, wishing that everyone felt such gratitude. And Yes, the new TLD volume is wonderful! Thanks for all!

Thanks, Linda. I was watching my dog when I got inspired for that line. Dogs show such love and gratitude for the simplest things.

Poetry has long been important to me, but it’s even more essential these days. Some feelings, thoughts, and prayers can only be expressed that way. Thank you for sharing yours!
