April and May Book Orders

It’s time to stock up for summer reading!  There are some great books in these last two catalogues.  Here are some of the ones I’m eyeing for me and our classroom.

The saga of Vladimir Todd continues with Eleventh Grade Burns ($14) by Heather Brewer.  It’s in hardback, so it’s a little pricey, but I may not be able to wait for paperback.

I’ve been wanting to read The Maze Runner ($16 – Hardcover)  by James Dashner ever since Mitch reviewed it.  It sounds like a good read for fans of The Hunger Games ($7)

Leviathan ($18) is by one of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi authors, Scott Westerfeld.  If I can’t afford any more hardbacks, I did see the public library has this one.

For those of you who like graphic novels and or Holocaust history, you can get both Maus and Maus II for only $10.  Art Speigelman recounts his Jewish father’s struggle to survive the horrors of the Holocaust in comic book form.  This is the only graphic novel I’ve been able to finish.

Another World War II mystery is What I Saw and How I Lied by ($5) by Judy Blundell.  I love the title.  It has me hooked already.

The best offer in the May catalogue is pre-ordering Mockingjay ($13) by Suzanne Collins.  Not only will the book be delivered to your door on August 24, you will also get a note from Suzanne Collins (no, she’s not writing all these personally) and a cool mockingjay pin.  You can also buy the first two books (Hunger Games and Catching Fire) for $25, or seperately for $13 each.   I’m in.  Don’t forget to fill out the form on the back.

Twilight ($11) by Stephenie Meyer is now available in graphic novel as well.  I’ll pass, but some of you might like it.  Speak ($4) by Laurie Halse Anderson and Cut ($3) by Patricia McCormick are both intense stories of girls trying to overcome challenges.
