About

I am a freelance writer who enjoys writing about a variety of topics including parenting, literacy, gardening, outdoor adventures, and travel.  I have written for several writing platforms where I have received high ratings from staff and clients.

Before launching my freelance writing career, I taught middle school English/Language Arts for fifteen years.  I became a Teacher Consultant for the National Writing Project after completing the Summer Institute in 2005 at the Indiana University Southeast Writing Project site.  I continued to hone my writing and teaching skills through attending Advanced Institutes and presenting at state and local conferences.

I earned a B.A. from Meredith College in 1991.  I doubled majored in English and Women’s Studies and earned a concentration in professional communications.  After spending two years as a mission volunteer at Red Bird Mission in southeast Kentucky and working a variety of jobs, I returned to school.  I earned a B.S. in elementary education from Indiana University – Purdue University Columbus in 1997.  In addition to the Indiana elementary teaching license, I added endorsements in reading and middle school language arts.  I completed graduate work at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis in 2001 with an M.A. in English.  I also added another endorsement to teach English as a Second Language to my teaching license.
