5, 6, 7 Week at a Glance: April 9 – 13

Monday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  Read and discuss poems in class.  I’ll take volunteers to model how to read and take notes and discuss with the first poem.  Then you will have a chance to practice with a second poem.
Homework: Read. Choose five words for Weekly Word Study.

Tuesday

Read first 15 minutes of class. Poetry scavenger hunt.  Look through the poem collections to find examples of different kinds of poems and different poetic devices.  Record the poem you find and your explanation on the scavenger hunt paper.  Due Friday.
Homework: Read.  Complete Weekly Word Study.

Wednesday

Read first fifteen minutes of class. Work on Poetry Scavenger Hunt.
Homework: Read.  Complete Weekly Word Study.

Thursday

Read first fifteen minutes of class.  Complete Partner Quiz for word study.  Complete Poetry Scavenger Hunt.  Due Friday.
Homework: Read.  Weekly Word Study due.

Friday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  Turn in Poetry Scavenger Hunt.  Blog post:  Choose an “autobiographical poem,”  a poem that reflects something about who you are.  Choose at least four lines of the poem to copy into a blog post and write a thoughtful paragraph explaining your connection with the poem.  Remember to include a citation for the poem, inlcuding the poet, name of poem, and title of book you found it in.
Homework: Read.
