Week at a Glance: December 5 – 9

Monday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  Finish typing the first draft of your editorial.  Make sure it it double-spaced and print out a copy so we can start revising.  If you finish before class is over, check out what’s happening with your blog buddies.
Homework: Read.  Choose five words for Weekly Word Study.

Tuesday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  A strong lead or introduction will do two things:  hook your reader and let them know what your writing is all about.  Experiment with a couple of different leads for your editorial until you find one that works!
Homework: Read.  Complete Weekly Word Study.

Wednesday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  It’s not enough to state your argument.  You also have to develop it or prove your point. Brainstorm facts, examples, statistics, anecdotes, explanations that will strengthen your arguments.  Complete a peer conference that focuses on adding information to develop your arguments.
Homework: Read.  Complete Weekly Word Study. 

Thursday

Read first 15 minutes of class.  Take what you learned from your peer conference and apply it to your writing.  Add sentences to your draft that develop your arguments.  You may search on the Internet for information if you need to find more.  If you find information from a website for your editorial, you need to write down the name of the website or the organization it comes from.
Homework: Read.  Weekly Word Study due.

Friday

Read the first 15 minutes of class.  Today it’s your turn to discuss and debate.  We will read both sides of an editorial and identify the Essential Questions:  1)What is the issue?  2)What is the author’s position?  3)What arguments are given?  4)What do you think about the issue now?
Homework: Read.
